Toulouse and Spain, is a cultural and historical filiation. Toulouse the Spanish, it is customary to say, in its festive tradition and increasingly spicy. This statement is broadly valid in cinema, a field where the art of Spain no longer needs to be demonstrated.

Since 1996, the Afich association organizes Cinespaña, the Spanish film festival. Over the years the meeting has become an institution and attracted, in 2021, almost 21,000 visitors, with one hundred projections.

In 2022, for her 27And editing, the association has put small plates into large ones.

Here are the four good reasons not to miss this event in Toulouse and Occitania (there are about fifty cinemas!), which will start on Thursday 6 October 2022 with the Spanish film festival and a tribute to Juan Antonio Bardem (at the Cervantes Institute).

To participate in a prestigious opening night

Friday 7 October 2022, the opening night of the festival, which will take place in the great hall of the Cinémathèque de Toulouse, will offer the public two films. First, and this will be an international first, with the broadcast of “El Sostre Groc”by Isabel Coixet, a documentary-manifesto that recalls a story of sexual abuse in the early 2000s in a theater school in Lleida, just beyond the Pyrenees.

The second film of this 4-star prime time will be “Peace, torment in the islands”, by Albert Serra, the adventures of a High Commissioner of the Republic in Tahiti … Premiere screening with the French actor Benoît Magimel but above all, being the Spanish film festival, the great Sergi Lopez. For this film, go to the ABC (13, rue Saint-Bernard) from 8:30 pm.

A police cinema that has been in vogue for more than ten years among our dear Iberian neighbors. Cinespaña will take us on a journey from 1950 to 2022 with, in bulk, the bloody itinerary of a butcher (“La semana del asesino”) or the singular methods of a police unit in Seville (Grupo 7 ″) … But the event will be the meeting with the director Rodrigo SorogoyenSaturday 8 October 2022 at the Cinémathèque from 19:00 He is the new star of the Spanish black and spectators will have the opportunity to see his famous “Come bestas”, a brutal agricultural drama in the heart of Galicia. “It is precisely the film that made him known to the general public”, points out Françoise Palmerio, president of Cinespaña.

Find out more about Portuguese cinema

The Spanish film festival takes a step aside this yearand towards the Portuguese neighbor, and in particular a focus on one of the greatest directors in Cristiano Ronaldo’s country, João Pedro Rodrigues, through several short and feature films. “Portuguese cinema is particular, little known but exceptional. It is a cinema that is of great interest ”, says Françoise Palmerio.

Another focus will be on Pedro Costa, who often took his camera around the suburbs of Lisbon, as close as possible to the reality of immigrant workers and the working class. Five films by this director will be screened at the Le Cratère cinema in the Pink City (95, grand rue Saint-Michel).

To meet a world famous judge

Cinespaña’s Off is its activity for children, its debates and its meetings. In this context, the presence, in two stages, of the magistrate is not lacking Baltasar Garzon, at the origin of several investigations for crimes against humanity, such as the crimes of Francoism and the Chilean dictatorship under Pinochet.
