It is, every year, an emblematic oenophile meeting of the Sancerrois. The French Wine Fair will make its big comeback this weekend and will celebrate its 50th edition.
The event returns to a more classic formula. In the last two years, upset by the health crisis, he had been joined by the Sancerre Wine Fair. So coupled, they took place in the form of an autumn fair, in the streets of the center of Sancerre in October 2020 then, in October 2021, in the cellars of Mignonne, the traditional setting for the Sancerre wine fairs.
About fifty denominations
will be represented
This time, the organization and the place change. The event was taken over by the association that animates the Sancerre hamlet of Amigny, Amigny en avant, and by a new association structure, the Friends of the Foire aux Vins de France. “The Mignonne cellars are now closed to the public, explains Sylvain Cherrier, oenologist and secretary of the Amigny en avant association. The Trade Fair Commission of the Unione del Vino renewed the Sancerre Wine Fair in the streets of the city in June, but did not renew the French Wine Fair. With a group of winemaker friends, we wanted to make it last. If such an event is not organized even for a year, the risk is that it will disappear forever. “

A new location has been found. And, for the first time, the fair descends from the Sancerre hill. “We opted for the socio-cultural center of Saint-Satur, which is the largest room in the sector. “
Many vineyards will be represented at the Fair: Alsace (Meyer-Horn estate), Beaujolais (Père Jean estate), Bordeaux (Château La Peyre), Burgundy (Pascal and Mathieu Laboureau), Bourgueil (Ouches estate), Chablis (Christophe Camus), Champagne (Charles Bliard, Michel Labbé), Chinon (Galuches estate), Die (Muttes estate), Anjou (Séverin estate), Gigondas (Montmirail castle), Jurançon (Burgué-Séré estate), Langudoc-Roussillon (Lérys estate), Pays d’Oc (Les Yeuses estate), Saint-Joseph (Dry Stones estate), Saint-Émilion (Pindefleurs castle). The Begey house will bring cognacs and Pineau des Charentes. The Sancerre vineyard will also be represented by the Domaine des Buissonnes and Marc Guérin.
Furthermore, the date is also no longer the same. “The French Wine Fair traditionally took place on the last weekend of August,” explains Sylvain Cherrier. But with climate change and early harvest, it was no longer possible for us to organize it at this time. “
A tour of the vineyards of France
In any case, one thing is perpetuated, it is the philosophy of this meeting: to discover a wide range of wines by proposing a tour of the vineyards of France. About twenty winemakers will be present, representing over fifty denominations (see box).

“Their stands will be set up indoors because the weather is too uncertain at this time of year. We have recontacted all those who usually come to the fair and were ready to return. There will also be two winemakers of the Sancerre appellation. »There will also be food stands (crottins de Chavignol, foie gras, oysters, pastry). A well established recipe. “For many people it was important that this event continue to exist. ”
