3 questions Evelyne Lefevre Director of the IUT of Roanne

Evelyne Lefèvre has just been elected director of the IUT of Roanne, succeeding Nabih Nejjar, in office since 2012. In three questions, she traces her career, the implementation of the campus project and the projects she considers priorities for the IUT.

Until now a lecturer at IUT Roanne and most recently appointed Deputy Vice President in charge of the Roanne campus alongside the Presidential team, can you tell us about yourself and your background?

Originally from Roanne, I continued my studies at the Jean Monnet Saint-Étienne University where I obtained a master’s degree in English. i have one international career since I spent the first ten years of my professional life in the United States and especially in New Zealand, where I taught and directed the Alliance Française in Auckland.

When I returned to France, I very quickly joined the IUT de Roanne as an English teacher, then as an international relations officer, a year later. In this capacity I worked in close collaboration with the training managers, with the IUT of Saint-Étienne and the international department.

Since 2014 I have been involved in various university bodies, as a member of the IUT de Roanne board for 8 years and a member of the UJM board since 2021. I also participate in the CVEC commission and the Sports Council. In 2019 I also held the position of project manager for the ARQUS European alliance for the University of Lyon, on the plurilingual university and the intercultural axis.

In 2021, the newly elected government appointed me Assistant Vice President of the Roanne Campus. Since then, I have initiated and coordinated many projects, which are undoubtedly my trademark: the establishment of an International University Diploma, a reception center for international students, educational innovation projects at the IUT in Roanne and projects of student life with the Agglomeration of Roannais.

At European level I coordinated several projects Erasmus stairs and I am involved in the management of a university consortium.

My professional career, marked by the construction of projects, experiences abroad and numerous international collaborations, it enriched my teaching in project management, international management and English, and beyond that, to share learnings in the field with students. More generally, it also made me want to understand and work collaboratively.

The presidential teams and the management team of Roanne have been carrying out for 18 months a strong approach to the evolution of the campus which involves a new dynamic in terms of training, research, but also campus life. Can you introduce him to us?

When I joined the President’s team in 2021 as Assistant Vice President at the Roanne Campus, my mission was to represent her on all Roanne site matters and coordinate the Campus project in Roanne. .

In the last 18 months we have worked together and with the actors of the Roanne site, the central services, the Faculty of Science and Technology and the IAE of Saint-Étienne, the birth of this campus in Roanne, newly built around a single component with an enlarged perimeter: the IUT of Roanne. Launched in June 2021, the project was approved by the various authorities in the first half of 2022.

From the beginning of the 2022 academic year, Roanne IUT hosts 5 GOAL courses, 4 professional licenses, 2 general licenses including 1 health access license and 2 masters and trains 1,600 students each year, including 300 work-study students and nearly 300 work-study students.

Following this mission, I naturally wanted to be able to continue investing myself in this project as Director of the IUT of Roanne, accompanied by a management team. This new phase will be an opportunity to continue and strengthen the development of our links with our institutional and socio-economic partners in order to build an attractive IUT for our students, our staff and our partners and to face new challenges.

The new Roanne campus dynamic is based on the Roanne IUT. Can you tell us more about its new features and new missions? What are the projects that you have identified as priorities for the Institute?

The Roanne IUT is now an atypical institution on the national scene. Located in a neighboring site consisting of a research laboratory (LASPI) and an incubator, it hosts training courses for Technological University degrees (BUT) as well as General Licenses and Masters. It trains 1,600 students a year, including 300 trainees.

The goal for the next 5 years is above all to bring out the identity of a site : now that the administrative body exists, it is a question of allowing staff and students to take possession of this new perimeter. This involves the development of new collaboration spaces, meetings, a new graphic charter, the implementation of common tools and procedures and an evolution of its governance.

A student council will be established soon. The elected students and the management team will thus be able to rely on this consultancy to involve the students in the dynamics of the site.

Research sideit will be a question of fostering teamwork of our professors-researchers on site, of developing local synergies for the benefit of research and of supporting the laboratory’s initiatives of excellence.

Finally it will be consolidate our trainingfrom promote the actions taken, and of generate new projectsrelying on our networks and our partners, all this in close collaboration with the teams of the University.
